A Door No One Can Step Through (Fuel Door Repair and Maintenance)

Posted August 16, 2020 7:48 AM

Your vehicle has lots of doors including that one usually near the back on the vehicle's side.  That's the fuel door, something you use every time you gas up.  These endure hundreds of open-and-close cycles, usually without any problems.  But when they act up, it can be a major inconvenience for you.

When they stick in the "open" position, it can present real dilemma.  You can still pump your gas, but do you just drive around with that flap sticking out the side? What happens if someone steals the gas cap or it gets damaged? What happens if it rains? Yep, it's decision time.

A fuel door that sticks open can be due to a number of factors.  The hinge on the door may have broken, possibly from corrosion or it may have been hit sometime.  Some vehicles have a cable that operates the door and it could be loose.  The latch that holds the door shut could have broken or it, too, could be bent from something hitting it.

You probably want to take care of this sometime soon since your gas cap is wide open and unprotected when the door doesn't shut.  Plus, it's possible that the door could be torn off completely.  Often a stuck open fuel door can be fixed fairly inexpensively and quickly depending on the type of mechanism your vehicle has. Looks like it's an open and shut case.

What Newark Customers like About Us at Union Street Automotive

Posted August 2, 2020 9:06 AM

A big part of the service we provide at Union Street Automotive for our Newark customers is education. We want you to feel confident with your service decisions.

And we're always open to questions from our valued Newark area customers. Even though we try to be proactive in our Union Street Automotive automotive education, we sometimes get busy fixing vehicles and need a reminder. Please, just ask.

We've found our Newark customers like the service reminders. They've grown to trust that our recommendations are based on the vehicle manufactures’ published maintenance schedules and that Union Street Automotive is not just pulling them out of the air.

We know that people in Newark live a busy life with a lot more to think about than wondering if it's time to replace the PCV valve on their vehicle. Part of our Union Street Automotive service process is checking the vehicle manufacture's schedule to make sure we don't overlook service.

We hope NY drivers appreciate their courtesy inspection when they come into our Newark facility for service. If we find something unexpected, it's good to know, and if we don't find anything wrong, you get a little peace of mind.

You know, customer satisfaction is very important to us at Union Street Automotive. We want to run a professional and friendly Newark automotive service operation. If we do, you'll keep coming back and recommend us to your friends.
